Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining good health — we know this. But sometimes we get a little tired of reaching for our plain ol’ glass of water. While plain water keeps us hydrated, sometimes you might want a little more flavor, nutrition, and excitement. That’s where smoothies come in! Not only are they a refreshing way to hydrate, but they provide additional fiber, nutrients, and minerals that can work in benefit to your body’s electrolyte balance.
We’re highlighting three of our favorite recipes — Green Goddess, Berry Blast, and Strawberry Watermelon. Each packed with hydrating, nutritious ingredients meant to work in tandem with your Lyte Balance electrolytes. Let’s dive in:
Green Goddess Smoothie:
1 cup baby spinach
1 cup chopped cucumber
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/2 avocado
1/2 Lime juiced
1 capful Lyte Balance
1 cup coconut water
Why this smoothie is great — Cucumbers and coconut water are both high in water content, while spinach and pineapple provide additional hydration and are rich in antioxidants and vitamins. Avocado adds healthy fats to help with absorption of these nutrients.
Berry Blast Smoothie:
1 cup of frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt
1 banana
1/2 cup of oat milk
1 capful Lyte Balance
1-2 tablespoon of honey (adjust for personal preference)
Why this smoothie is great — Blueberries are a great source of hydration and are rich in antioxidants, while Greek yogurt provides protein and calcium. Consuming dairy products alongside electrolytes is beneficial for absorption because dairy contains calcium, which is an important mineral that helps with the absorption and retention of electrolytes in the body. Banana adds additional hydration and natural sweetness, while almond milk is a great source of electrolytes. Honey adds a touch of sweetness without any artificial sweeteners.
Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie:
1 cup of watermelon chunks
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1 banana
1 capful Lyte Balance
1/2 cup of coconut water
Why this smoothie is great — Watermelon and coconut water are both high in electrolytes, which help to replenish the body's fluids and maintain hydration levels. Strawberries and bananas are also great sources of water and provide additional nutrients like vitamin C.
]]>Below you’ll find the recipes for three mason jar salads with their accompanying dressings, in case you’re feeling extra ambitious. You can always swap these dressings with your favorite options from the grocery store, just make sure to not forget your Lyte Balance!!
Pro-tip: We love prepping two of these recipes every week on Saturday or Sunday. When you build your salads in jars, you’ll keep the greens on the top and the dressing on the bottom so that these keep in your fridge ready-to-grab all week long. We’ve made sure to keep these recipes unstructured so that you can add any combination of ingredients you prefer. Don’t love greens? Add less! Swap out veggies, add cheeses, have fun! First up, a classic Cobb salad in a jar.
Cobb Salad
Layer your salad ingredients into your mason jar, making sure to begin with your salad dressing and hearty vegetables at the bottom of your jar (this keeps the lighter ingredients at the top fresh, like your greens). When you’re finished with your salad prep, pop a lid on and keep in your fridge up to 5 days.
Blue Cheese Vinaigrette
Combine all ingredients, except for your crumbled blue cheese, in food processor or blender. Pulse for 20-30 seconds until your dressing is smooth. Pour into a small bowl, fold in your crumbled blue cheese, and enjoy!
Chicken Taco
Layer your salad ingredients into your mason jar, making sure to begin with your salad dressing and hearty vegetables at the bottom of your jar (this keeps the lighter ingredients at the top fresh, like your greens). When you’re finished with your salad prep, pop a lid on and keep in your fridge up to 5 days.
Creamy Southwest Dressing
Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and pulse for 20-30 seconds until your dressing is smooth.
Apple Spinach
Layer your salad ingredients into your mason jar, making sure to begin with your salad dressing and hearty vegetables at the bottom of your jar (this keeps the lighter ingredients at the top fresh, like your greens). When you’re finished with your salad prep, pop a lid on and keep in your fridge up to 5 days.
Blueberry Vinaigrette
Combine in food processor or blender and puree until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
Buddha Bowl
Layer your salad ingredients into your mason jar, making sure to begin with your salad dressing and hearty vegetables at the bottom of your jar (this keeps the lighter ingredients at the top fresh, like your greens). When you’re finished with your salad prep, pop a lid on and keep in your fridge up to 5 days.
Green Goddess Dressing
Combine in a food processor or blender and puree until smooth, 1-2 minutes. If the mixture is too thick, add 1 tbl of water at a time until your perfect consistency is reached.
Meal prep, done! Feel better, eat better, hydrate better!
]]>‘Tis the season for celebrations, family gatherings, and lots and lots of drinks! If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the parties but also stay away from alcohol, we have the perfect recipes for you. We’ve curated three of our favorite festive mocktails to keep you and your guests happy this season.
With more of our friends and family foregoing alcoholic beverages for a myriad of reasons, we have our sights set on incorporating more mocktails into our holiday parties and celebrations. But, we all know how drinking mocktails at a party can sometimes feel a little more lackluster than the real thing. The secret to making mocktails feel just as fancy as a traditional cocktail is all in the glassware. Instead of putting your drinks in standard drinking glasses, spice things up with fun colors and styles so that your guests feel jut as special drinking your yummy creations. Another way to make sure that your drinks wow your crowd is to add special garnishes. Don’t worry, we’ve included our favorite way to garnish each of the recipes below. We can’t wait to hear what you think!
First up is our iced ginger spice. This stunning cocktail made mocktail is the perfect addition to any holiday party or get-together, but we love this recipe because the multi-purpose syrup can be used throughout the season in other delicious things as well.
With flavors of warm cinnamon, spicy ginger, sweet honey, and crisp cider, this drink really is your gateway into the flavors of the season. Bonus!! It’s so easy! All of the work is in the spiced syrup, which keeps for weeks, making this beverage an easy go-to.
Ginger Spice
For the spiced syrup —
1 cup water
½ cup sugar
¼ cup honey
2 cinnamon sticks
1 star anise pod
2 inches of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped finely
Combine all ingredients into a small saucepan set to medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring often, and then reduce heat to low. Cook until all sugars have dissolved, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and allow to come to room temperature.
Strain your syrup, discard the spices, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
For the Mocktail —
1 cup ice
½ cup apple cider
½ cup ginger beer
½ capful of Lyte Balance
2 tbs. Spiced syrup (start with this amount, but feel free to add more to taste!)
Apple slices for garnish
Star anise for garnish
Layer all of the ingredients into your favorite festive glass and garnish with your apple slices and star anise. We love to put our garnishes onto the side of the glass, but you can float yours as well!
And for anyone that enjoys a little spike in their drink, this recipe can easily be adapted for those that want a little booze — a shot of spiced rum makes the perfect addition if you choose.
Next up we have the perfect dessert martini to cap off (or start off) your day right! This booze-free recipe incorporates simple ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen already this season. This smooth, creamy, peppermint-filled mocktail is sure to make everyone feel like the season is just getting started. Here’s how to make it:
Peppermint Dreams
½ cup half and half
4 oz cream soda
1 capful Lyte Balance
1-2 drops peppermint oil or extract
Candy canes
Simple syrup
First, prepare your martini glasses by lightly coating the rim with simple syrup (tip: drop a couple tablespoons of your syrup on a plate for easy dipping). Follow up with dipping the rim into a plate of crushed candy canes.
To make the drink, fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all of your ingredients. Shake and strain into your prepared glass and enjoy!
Last up is a flavor-filled classic that we always find ourselves coming back to, year after year. With fresh rosemary syrup, tart cranberry juice, and fresh apple cider, this mocktail is sure to please anyone that finds it in their cup. If you’re looking to make this drink extra special, edible glitter is a super fun addition to really bring the magic. Let’s jump into the recipe!
Cranberry Bliss
For the rosemary simple syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
¼ cup fresh rosemary stems
2 tbl. Fresh lemon juice
In small saucepan, combine all ingredients over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Once all sugar has dissolved, remove from heat, and allow to come to room temperature. Strain out the rosemary and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
For the Mocktail
1 cup ice
¼ cup cranberry juice
¼ cup apple cider
1 capful Lyte Balance
2 tbl. Rosemary simple syrup
Unflavored seltzer water
Additional rosemary for garnish
Fresh cranberries for garnish
To create your mocktail, first layer your ice along with the other ingredients adding enough seltzer water to fill your glass. Top with fresh rosemary and float a couple of cranberries for the perfect finish. And, if you’re adding glitter, now is the time to stir it in! Enjoy!
]]>We all wish there was a magic time machine in our living rooms that could zap us into our future, healthy selves when we have a cold, but at the end of the day the only real “cure” for a cold is rest, hydration, and making sure you are fueling your body appropriately.
We have some tricks up our sleeves here at Lyte Balance headquarters and we want to share them with you. Below are all of the products and supplements that we choose to use ourselves so that we can kick our colds and get back to our lives.
Bone broth + Lyte Balance
There’s nothing better than hot soup when we’re sick, but did you know that the added collagen found in bone broth supports your gut health and immunity? Collagen can play a key role in making sure you are absorbing other nutrients properly, which is essential when we aren’t feeling well. Paired with the minerals in Lyte Balance, this hydrating and nutritious drink will support you when you need it most.
Zinc Supplements + Hot Tea
At the very start of your cold is the time to start increasing your zinc intake. Zinc is beneficial in reducing the severity of symptoms and can also help you recover faster. Our favorite way to incorporate zinc when we are feeling a cold come on is to make some green tea with lemon, Lyte Balance, and our Zinc Liquid Minerals. If you crave a little sweetness, don’t be afraid to squeeze in some honey, as it also has healing benefits.
Steam Shower + Essential Oils
Steam showers are essential when your sinuses are blocked and your head is feeling like it might explode. Not only is there something so nostalgic about sitting in a steamy bathroom, but the added benefit of essential oils can help relieve congestion, open sinuses, and even offer additional benefits depending on the oils you use.
There’s always the DIY-route when it comes to adding ingredients to your steam showers (like oils, homemade shower bombs, or herbs), but when you’re under the weather and can’t whip up a batch yourself, these Shower Steamers from Amazon are the perfect solution. You drop one on the floor of your shower and your room will be filled with healing steam.
Lyte Balance Electrolytes
Staying hydrated should be your number one job when you’re sick. Not only do our symptoms, like fever and vomiting, increase our fluid loss when we’re ill, but our bodies need additional hydration to help loosen mucus in our airways and clear out our sinuses. Just water alone isn’t going to offer you as much benefit as increasing your electrolyte intake as well. You can do just that by using a product like Lyte Balance, which has just the right balance of electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium to replenish what your body is using. Adding just one little capful into a couple of your beverages during the day can make all of the difference when you’re sick and give your body the minerals that it needs.
Cozy Bed
Your mom was right when she said “rest is the best medicine” as studies have shown that our bodies really do need more sleep when we are fighting off a cold or the flu. When we sleep our bodies are hard at work repairing, healing themselves, and strengthening our immune systems. In case you need to hear it, it’s okay to rest when you’re sick. In fact, it might be one of your best defenses when you’re down.
‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice, salted caramel drizzle, and all of the other fall flavors our bodies seem to crave this time of year. When the mood strikes for a sweet coffee treat, we like to remind ourselves that this is just another avenue to provide our bodies with the electrolytes and minerals that we need.
Our team loves turning any fall beverage into an electrolyte-loaded drink that serves our overall hydration all while satisfying our need for that cinnamon sprinkle on top. Whether it’s mixing together our favorite creamers and iced coffee, whipping up a quick cold-foam, or steaming our milk to perfection, you can count on all of us sneaking in a capful (or two) of our concentrated electrolytes. Overall we find it adds the perfect balance of flavors, especially when we have sweet syrups on our hands.
And we should mention that there are major benefits of consuming dairy with Lyte Balance! The calcium and protein found in dairy products completes the full circle of electrolytes increasing your body’s absorption of these key nutrients all while you sip on your warm bev. What better way to give yourself exactly what you need!
Here are three of our most favorite ways to incorporate Lyte Balance into this fall-drink season.
One — Pumpkin Vanilla Iced Coffee
A classic made easy with ingredients right from your grocery aisle. This is the perfect go-to combination for your morning coffee-walking-out-the-door!
Ingredients:
2 cups of your favorite iced coffee
2 tbs. Pumpkin spice creamer
1 tbs. Vanilla syrup
1 capful of Lyte Balance
This recipe couldn’t be easier. Start off with a tall glass of ice and pour in your ingredients. Mix it up, and feel free to top it off with some whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy. If you’re feeling even fancier, finish with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.
Two — Warm Spiced Apple Cider
Who doesn’t love a hot cup of cider on a crisp fall day? We absolutely do, and this is our go-to recipe for the days when we want our kitchens to smell as good as the air outside.
Ingredients:
8 cups apple cider
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
1 orange peel (trimmed of white pith)
To make: Place all ingredients into a large pot except for your Lyte Balance (we’ll save this for the end!). Cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Once at a simmer, reduce your heat to low and let steep for at least 60 minutes and up to three hours.
After simmering, skim off your whole ingredients. Right before you serve, add 4 capfuls of Lyte Balance to your pot and stir to combine. Serve with additional cinnamon sticks, oranges, or sliced apples as garnish.
Three — Salted Caramel Cold Foam
We won’t lie, you might be addicted to putting this foam on top of every drink once you make it for the first time. The salty flavor comes into play by mixing in our concentrated electrolytes, no salt here! For this recipe, you will batch-mix the ingredients ahead of time. We like storing our mixtures in mason jars until ready to use.
Ingredients:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup 2% milk
¼ cup caramel syrup
4 capfuls Lyte Balance
To make: Place all of your ingredients into an airtight container and shake to mix. Keep this mixture refrigerated until ready to use. When ready, place ½ cup of your sweet cream mixture into any blender and whip for about 5-10 seconds until thick and creamy. That’s it!! Use your salted caramel cold foam to top your favorite fall beverages (it’s even good with black coffee!).
With the start of back-to-school season and fall knocking on our doors, we all know what comes next — the dreaded sniffles. This season is full of bugs brought back home from the office and school, and we all could use a little boost to our system.
This hydrating, immunity-boosting, and delicious juice recipe will have your body saying thank you for all of the extra vitamins, gut-boosters, and minerals. With vibrant carrots, sweet oranges, tangy ginger, and soothing turmeric, this easy go-to juice is just a few minutes away from boosting your immunity and increasing your hydration.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients and their benefits —
Carrots: Contain Vitamin A and Beta Carotene. Vitamin A helps with your body’s upkeep of your mucous membrane, which is integral to fighting off bacterial and viral infections.
Orange & Lemon: High in Vitamin C, the most important nutrient when it comes to your immune system. Vitamin C also helps to increase the absorption of iron, another important nutrient for your body’s immune health.
Ginger: A natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, ginger also increases the productivity of your digestive system. Gut health is super important when it comes to immunity, and ginger is your perfect addition.
Tumeric: Curcumin is the active ingredient in Tumeric and it’s extremely antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. This promotes your immune response to fight off infection.
Lyte Balance: Provides your body with the exact ratio of minerals that your system craves. With potassium, phosphate, sodium, and magnesium, this is the key ingredient to improve your body’s overall hydration.
Let’s get to juicing! Here’s our recipe full of all of those amazing ingredients:
4 small carrots
1 Navel Orange or 2 Clementines
1/2 Lemon
1-inch ginger (peeled)
1-inch turmeric (peeled)
1 capful Lyte Balance
Add everything except for the Lyte Balance into your juicer, one item at a time. Once everything has gone through, add your capful of Lyte Balance and stir to incorporate everything together. Pour over ice or enjoy at room temperature — whatever you prefer!
]]>There are so many different combinations you can create when making your own popsicles, so play around! The next time you’re at your local supermarket, take a stroll down the juice aisle and grab something that sounds good to you.
You can keep it simple with just juice or add in some fresh fruit or herbs to make it extra special. Most berries work wonderfully in popsicles, but other choices could be mango, kiwi, peach, or even watermelon. Whatever your flavor choice might be, you'll know that you’re giving your body the balance of minerals that it craves by including a few capfuls of Lyte Balance — your secret ingredient to wellness.
Here’s our guide on how we made these sweet & tart strawberry lemonade pops:
First — You’re going to take about 1 cup of fresh strawberries and dice them up small enough so that they fit inside of your favorite ice molds.
Next — Get your freshly-made lemonade (or store bought, if you’re a busy mom like us) and add in 3-4 capfuls of Lyte Balance. Make sure to thoroughly mix this together to get an even distribution.
Finally — Prepare your pops! We like to place the fruit first and then pour our lemonade over the top. Pro-tip: gently tap your molds on the counter to make sure you don’t have any air bubbles after they freeze.
All that’s left to do is stick your pops in the freezer to enjoy in a few hours. Your taste buds will thank you just as much as your body will. What flavor are you going to try?
]]>Sometimes it’s as easy as a capful of Lyte Balance in your water bottle, but other days we want to be able to incorporate these minerals into other aspects of our diet and through our food.
Here are three genius ideas of how you can incorporate Lyte Balance into the meals that you create to nourish your body and stay hydrated — from your core.
Scrambled Eggs
Instead of using table salt as your seasoning of choice for your morning delight, use a capful of Lyte Balance instead! The salty flavor of our electrolyte concentrate is the perfect addition to your balanced morning routine.
Salad dressing
If you’re anything like us, you love to craft your own dressing when it comes to building your go-to salad at home. Instead of using salt in your mix, build your dressing with a capful of Lyte Balance for the perfect savory addition.
Here’s our favorite go-to balsamic dressing recipe:
Ingredients -
2 Tbs honey
1 Tbs dijon mustard
1 capful of Lyte Balance
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Directions — Combine all ingredients in a small mason jar and shake well until all ingredients are emulsified. Make sure you refrigerate any leftovers! Enjoy!!
Avocado Toast
A morning staple! We love a quick avocado toast when we’re running out the door or as an after school snack for our kiddos. Liven things up with electrolytes by filling a small spray bottle with Lyte Balance. Use your spray on the top of your avocados, top with fresh cracked pepper, and you’ll have yourself a quick meal or snack that’s packed with the exact mix of minerals that your body needs.
We hope that you enjoy all of the different ways you can use Lyte Balance in your every day life, even when you’ve done the work of drinking your water. We all know that being well is more than a product, and we can’t wait to see all of the ways you’ll incorporate Lyte Balance into your lifestyle.
]]>Electrolytes play a crucial role in lessening the effects of alcohol.
1. Drink fluids BEFORE and after you consume alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic further dehydrating you; plus if your hangover includes vomiting or diarrhea you need to replace not only fluids but electrolytes. Sipping juice or broth with Lyte Balance will instantly help your cells become hydrated and stable.
2. Grab some carbohydrates. "Drinking may lower blood sugar levels, so theoretically some of the fatigue and headaches of a hangover may be from a brain working without enough of its main fuel. Moreover, many people forget to eat when they drink, further lowering their blood sugar. Toast and juice is a way to gently nudge levels back to normal." - harvard.health.edu
Adding Lyte Balance to juice gives you a complex rapid rehydration drink.
3. Rehydrate before you go to bed. After a night of drinking it may be difficult to remember to guzzle water or juice with electrolytes but this is the most important moment to consume electrolytes; rehydrating before sleep will help you wake up with less side effects, like dry mouth, fatigue, or headache.
4. Have you heard about "hangxiety" - this occurs for some after drinking alcohol. Lyte Balance contains a higher ratio of potassium plus magnesium; mix it with chamomile tea to help calm your muscles and nerves after a night of drinking plus chamomile tea has been shown to help improve your sleep quality and relieve stomach upset. You can also mix Lyte Balance with a high sodium broth to rehydrate your cells from the inside out.
5. Go back to sleep. Alcohol disrupts your circadian rhythm making it difficult to get quality sleep. Lack of sleep exacerbates anxiety, irritability, and can make you feel more depressed. Feel better quicker by hydrating and going back to sleep.
Electrolytes are one of the most effective remedies to help with a hangover as they replenish your body with the minerals you need to retain fluids and expel toxins. When combined with water, juice, or broth they help reduce the effects of dehydration associated with drinking alcohol. Lyte Balance electrolyte concentrate includes sodium, magnesium, potassium, chloride, phosphate, sulfate, and bicarbonate giving you the essential minerals you need to recover.
*of course the only way to prevent a hangover is to abstain from drinking alcohol.
]]>Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can occur due to illness, surgery, side effects of medications, dietary imbalances, sweating, heat and hormones.
Electrolyte disturbances effect biomarkers like blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature to name a few, tasting your electrolytes allows you to get closer to balancing your biomarkers.
Physical and emotional stress affect your electrolyte balances and needs daily.
Symptoms that you might have an electrolyte imbalance:
Electrolyte disorders are most often caused by a loss of bodily fluids through prolonged vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating. The most common sign of low electrolytes is muscle cramping.
Certain medications can cause electrolyte disorders as well. Thyroid disorders, medications (including diuretics, blood pressure meds, seizure meds, and steroids), poor nutrition, vitamin D deficiency, and chronic kidney disease are some of the other causes of electrolyte imbalances.
The best way to keep electrolytes balanced in your body is by paying attention to your thirst. Staying hydrated is key to maintaining a balance of electrolytes. Water is the most natural choice for hydration - replenish essential minerals with Lyte Balance to help you maintain stable electrolyte levels.
Remember Water + Electrolytes = Hydration ™
]]>If you think hydration is about drinking water, you’re right. If you think hydration is only about drinking water, that may explain while you’re struggling with dry skin, muscle cramps, fatigue and other dehydration type issues.
]]>Memorize this equation: Water + Electrolytes = Hydration
Electrolytes provide the electrical current that activates nerve transmissions, muscle and heart function. Electrolytes are the building blocks for hormones. They nourish bones, skin, nails and hair. They help with digestion and keep you regular. Research indicates that electrolytes impact mental health including depression and anxiety. ‘Hydrated’ hardly seems like an adequate term to describe these wide-ranging benefits from Water + Electrolytes.
Your Hydration EquationTM is personal – not a one size fits all formula. Recalibrating your equation is a matter of finding the mix of fluids and electrolytes to fit your body and life. Your body provides clues all the time about your hydration status as long as you pay attention. Your taste buds can help you navigate your way every day to the far reaching benefits of good hydration.
We get electrolytes from the fluids we drink and the food we eat. A poor or imbalanced diet, not drinking enough fluids, drinking too much water or drinking only distilled water can create electrolyte deficiencies. Exercise, sweating, drinking alcohol, eating lots of sugar and taking drugs or medications can cause dehydration and deplete electrolytes or create an electrolyte imbalance.
So how is your Hydration EquationTM? What does it look like to be hydrated? Here’s a good hydration profile: normal blood pressure, supple muscles (no cramps); soft, hydrated skin, warm hands and feet, healthy nails, daily bowel movements, sweating when hot, no reoccurring infections, normal thirst, consistent energy, clear thinking and stable emotions. If you think we’re overstating the benefits, work on your personal Hydration EquationTM and see how many of your daily common complaints clear up.
A good place to start improving your Hydration EquationTM is to become more aware of your thirst. If you’ve become accustomed to ignoring your thirst or drinking a prescribed amount of water no matter what, you may need to spend some time getting back in touch with your natural thirst response.
Eat real, whole foods like vegetables, fruits, meats, seafood and dairy that can help you get those first string electrolytes – sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Salt foods to taste. Use sea or rock salts instead of table salt. Table salt is only sodium chloride. Sea or rock salt provides more of the Team Salts.
Cultivate your sense of taste to help you find the foods and fluids that will provide the nutrients YOUR body is looking for. Our taste response mirrors our body’s changing needs, altering our food and drink preferences daily according to our diet, activity and stress. Follow your preferences – water? sparkling water? milk? fruit smoothie?
You may want to consider an electrolyte supplement if your training, healing or if your hydration profile needs a lot of work. When you look for an electrolyte replacement supplement keep in mind the important concept of Team Salts. Sports drinks are made to replenish salt lost from sweating so they contain mostly sodium or a 2 to 1 ration of sodium to potassium. Sports drinks are best used on race day or a day when you’ll be sweating. Daily use of a sports drink for hydration can create an imbalance in the important sodium to potassium ratio.
Check labels and look for electrolyte replacements that have as many of the eight Team Salts as possible. Also look for formulas that contain more potassium than sodium to protect your blood pressure.
The benefits of adequate hydration may be more far-reaching than you ever imagined. If you want to improve your Hydration Equation,TM work on adding Water + Electrolytes every day for a while and see if you get better, more consistent performance and energy to play longer and recover faster.
]]>Food always contains a broad spectrum of nutrients and should be the basis for building good nutrition. The complexity of the nutritional content of food enhances bioavailability and can protect against excess nutrient loading. Your sense of taste and smell can help you choose the foods that will meet your individual nutrient needs. Get a list of foods that contain the nutrients you’re concerned about and let your senses guide you to make the best choice.
Supplementing can also help so it is wise to give your body access to multiple nutrients. Our Taste n’Score mineral kit provides six essential minerals, bottled individually, so you can use a simple taste test to create a personalized multi-mineral drink.
A final, but important note about immunity. Infection is a factor that compromises immunity. Poor nutrition is related to being susceptible to infection. Zinc, copper, potassium, magnesium and sodium have all been identified as minerals that can help prevent and fight infection. Our Taste n’Score mineral kit includes potassium, zinc, magnesium, copper, chromium and manganese.
Using both Lyte Balance Electrolyte concentrate alongside our Taste n’Score mineral kit will help your body fight infection as well as boost your body’s innate immune defense.
]]>Do you feel worn out, run down, low on energy? Do you experience muscle cramps, have dry skin or nails, and cold hands and feet?
Using a daily electrolyte may help with these symptoms.
Electrolytes are mineral salts carried by water that direct fluid inside and outside cells throughout your body. Since these salts work together, think of them like a team consisting of four first string players: sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium and four second string players: phosphorus, sulfur, bicarbonate and chloride. These electrolyte salts play both offense and defense building good hydration, healthy blood pressure and circulation while defending against cramping, infection, mental fogginess and fatigue.
Electrolytes provide the electrical current that activates nerve transmissions in your muscles and heart. Electrolytes are the building blocks for hormones; they nourish bones, skin, nails and hair. They help with digestion and keep you regular. Electrolytes are natures original anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agents. Research indicates that electrolytes impact mental health, including depression and anxiety. ‘Hydrated’ is an inadequate term to describe these expansive benefits.
Let’s take blood pressure as an example of Team Salts working together. As a general rule, sodium can raise blood pressure and potassium can lower blood pressure. Magnesium and calcium then play a role in regulating the sodium to potassium ratio. High or low blood pressure indicates an electrolyte imbalance; either too much sodium in your system or too much potassium in the absence of each other.
We get electrolytes from the fluids we drink and the food we eat. A poor or imbalanced diet, not drinking enough fluids, drinking too much water, or drinking only distilled water can create electrolyte deficiencies. Exercise, sweating, drinking alcohol, eating lots of sugar and taking drugs or medications can cause dehydration and deplete electrolytes or create an electrolyte imbalance.
Use Lyte Balance, designed as an every day electrolyte, to help combat these symptoms & start feeling better today.

]]>Take a look at the list below. How many of these fit you?
Whether you identify with one or multiple, you may benefit from improving your electrolyte balance.
YOU SWEAT: Heat, exercise, sports, hot flashes. Sweating means you’re losing electrolytes – replace them!
YOU DON’T SWEAT – EVER: Never sweat no matter how hot it is or how much you exercise? You may be missing the electrolytes necessary to cool your body. Sweating is your body’s natural way to cool down.
HAVE HIGH OR LOW BLOOD PRESSURE. Blood pressure can reflect electrolyte balance. Too much sodium can increase blood pressure. Dehydration and low sodium can produce low blood pressure. Magnesium and calcium also regulate blood pressure. If your blood pressure is high or low, you likely have an electrolyte imbalance.
TAKE MEDICATIONS: Blood pressure medications, antacids, antibiotics, cold medications, oral contraceptives and Hormone Replacement Therapy all alter electrolyte levels. Chemotherapy is especially hard on the body and recovery typically involves electrolyte replacement.
SUFFER FROM CONSTIPATION OR IRREGULARITY:
A first step in addressing these issues is to increase fluids and electrolytes.
EXPERIENCE CIRCULATION PROBLEMS: Cold hands and/or feet or fluid retention (edema)? Electrolytes are key to good circulation. Drink lots of water but still have these problems? You may need to add more electrolytes. True hydration is the right ratio of water AND electrolytes.
MUSCLE TIGHTNESS OR CRAMPING: Electrolytes like magnesium and potassium play a key role in keeping your muscles relaxed and supple.
SUFFER FROM CHRONIC OR RECURRING INFECTIONS: Electrolytes are nature’s original anti-bacterial, anti-fungal agent.
Your hands provide a fascinating insight into hydration, nutrition, blood flow and circulation. Our hands are our personal work horses so when they give us trouble, it affects our quality of life. Many of us accept cold, dry hands as normal or that wrinkles or rigid veins are just a part of aging when they are actually signs of poor circulation and potentially even more serious health concerns. Check out the look and feel of your hands and see them in a whole new way.
VEINS? Put your hand on your knee, palm down and look. Do you have raised veins showing above the skin on the back of your hand? No veins – you need more fluid! Now raise your hand and watch to see when they disappear – at your waist? Chest? Chin? Eye level? The higher your hand goes before the veins disappear the better hydrated you are. (NOTE: if they never disappear, they may be rigid indicating poor circulation or a heart condition).
COLOR: What color is the pad of your hand? It should be pink with even tones – this applies to people of all colors. Pink color indicates blood and oxygen levels are good.
CONDITION:
Wrinkled or prune like hands or finger tips? Skin on the pads of your fingers look like a prune even when you’re not in the bathtub? Prune like = dehydrated.
Cracks on the skin around your nails? Dehydration
Brown spots? Ridges on your nails? Poor nail development? These are signs of mineral deficiencies.
FEEL: Cold hands – dry or maybe clammy? This may mean poor circulation and blood flow.
TURGOR? Grasp the skin on the back of your hand between two fingers so that it is tented up - hold for a few seconds and then release. Skin with normal turgor snaps rapidly back to its normal position. Skin with decreased turgor remains elevated and returns slowly to its normal position. Poor turgor means dehydration.
CAPILLARY REFILL (Perfusion): Hold your hand higher than heart-level. Press the soft pad of a finger or your finger nail until it turns white. Take note of the time needed for the color to return once pressure is released. Normal refill time is less than 2 seconds = good blood flow.
TAKE ACTION - by increasing your fluids and including a daily electrolyte supplement like Lyte Balance you can warm up your hands, improve circulation, make them less dry and feel confident knowing you're properly hydrated!
It may take some work to re-activate a normal thirst response. A reasonable rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces each day (e.g. 120 lbs = 60 ounces or about 7 cups of water). Use Lyte Balance twice a day to add electrolytes for true hydration. Water + Electrolytes = Hydration. As this fluid balance equation improves so will your ability to tune in to your natural sense of thirst.

The challenge of hydration is not just about how much water to drink. As you may remember from biology class, the human body is more than 60% water. Blood is 92 percent water, the brain and muscles are 75 percent water, and bones are about 22 percent water. Within this water are essential minerals we call electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and magnesium. Electrolytes direct the flow of water throughout the body to nourish, remove waste and provide the electrical conduction for our muscles, nerve and brain. Electrolyte salts are nature's original anti-fungal, anti-bacterial agent. Even your senses of smell, hearing, sight and taste are dependent on adequate hydration.

MOODY? Two recent studies* indicate that mild dehydration can impact your mood. Fifty one healthy men and women walked on a treadmill to induce dehydration. The researchers then tested the subjects' alertness, concentration, reaction time, learning, memory, reasoning and mood. Mild dehydration in men caused difficulty in memory and alertness. In women dehydration caused significant fatigue, tension and anxiety (this experiment was repeated three times over three months with the same results). Sometimes it's the simple things we do like staying hydrated that can make the most difference in our daily health and well being. Water + Electrolytes = Hydration. Lyte Balance = 100% pure, balanced electrolyte salts. Add to water or your favorite beverage for personalized hydration.

BUILD BETTER BONES: Besides holding you up, did you know that your bones are the body’s largest reservoir or storage container for minerals? Bones store 99% of the body's calcium and 85% of the phosphorus. Bone also contains small amounts of magnesium, sodium, potassium and bicarbonate (yes all are electrolytes). Our bodies continually remove small amounts of calcium from our bones and replace it with new calcium in a process known as bone remodeling. Calcium and other minerals will also be taken from the bone when needed elsewhere in the body which underscores the need to replenish these minerals every day. If your body removes more minerals from bones than it replaces, they slowly become weaker and more prone to breaking. Osteoporosis is actually de-mineralization of the bone; not just loss of calcium. You may also be surprised to know that your bones are comprised of about 25% water. Help fill up your bones with the minerals and fluid it thrives on with Lyte Balance Electrolyte Replacement mixed in milk, kefir or yogurt.
